About
Nick
Nick is best known for his work as a producer of electronic dance music both
on his own and as one half of the Bedrock production team with DJ John Digweed
(voted no.1 DJ in the world in 2001). He has been involved in many pivotal moments
in the world of club music and has in many ways helped to define the genres
in which he has worked.
Tracks such as 'For What You Dream Of' and 'Heaven Scent' under the Bedrock
banner and his own 'Stoneage' as Floorjam are widely regarded as classics, still
played all over the world; his music has been used extensively in film and he
and John have written scores for, amongst others, 'Stark Raving Mad' (Newmarket
films) and 'Spiderman - the new animated series' which won a Dancestar award
for Best Use of Music in a TV Show. 'For What You Dream Of' was famously used
in the club scene of the phenomenally successful era defining film, 'Trainspotting'.
There have been countless other productions and remixes over the years including
mixes for New Order, Underworld and The Orb. To this day Nick is an in demand
producer of club music and is releasing as much music now as ever, on labels
such as Mashtronic, Renaissance and of course the eponymous Bedrock.
There are other strings to Nicks bow - he is a virtuoso pianist, having studied
from age 5 and subsequently at music college. This led him to make a living
as a session musician for the first part of his career, playing piano organ
and keyboards with many and varied artists, including Jake Burns (Stiff Little
Fingers) Take That and The Men They Couldn't Hang.
During the 80's Nick worked closely with legendary indie producer Pat Collier
(Wonderstuff, Primal Scream) at his own Greenhouse studio and learnt much of
the craft of production from him, as well as contributing to countless recordings
as a keyboard player and programmer.
He also had the good fortune to live and work in France for 4 years in the 80's
touring and recording with French rock and roll legend Johnny Hallyday during
which time he acquired a good grasp of French and a taste for decent wine!
Nick now works almost exclusively out of his own studio deep in the Hertfordshire
countryside, is still heavily involved with dance music and also increasingly
in the world of film and TV advertising.
